John and his fine arts group left on Sunday afternoon at 2:30. They spent the night about 4 hours away where my in-laws live. Then they headed out Monday morning for Indianapolis. They STILL aren't there. They did not stop in a hotel last night either. I thought he was joking when I called him this morning and he said they were still driving. But he was quite serious. =(
They were delayed about 3 hours yesterday getting a tire fixed on our van that he was afraid was about to blow. After being back on the road for about an hour, a different tire did actually blow out. The tire place was supposed to have checked all the tires - apparently they did not do a good job. Soooo, they spent another few hours trying to get the blowout fixed. They ended up sleeping at a rest park for about 5 hours and then started driving some more. They are still at least 4 hours away, I think.
All of this was not the first of the frustration either. If you had the pleasure of being around me on Saturday afternoon or Sunday, you may have heard me gripe about Enterprise. It's such a very long story but the bottom line was just that they ended up having to use our own personal van, plus 2 other personal vehicles. I would have been stuck driving John's truck except that Delana was kind enough to once again let me borrow her car. It is not fun to try to squish a car seat into the back row of that truck. Thanks, Lana!
Please say a prayer for our group that they will all still love each other once they get there and that, at some point, they will actually get there too. I'm so glad I'm not on that trip........

As A Matter Fact, I Do!
Over the last few weeks or so, it has come to my attention that many people do not know that I teach piano lessons. So now you know. =) Let your friends know too if they're looking for someone. I have business cards available. I started teaching when I was 16 and have been teaching since then with the exception of about 2 years. If you've ever heard Ashley R. play sometime after church in the sanctuary then you've heard a sample of my "work". She's been my student since she was about 12. Anyway, lessons start back up on August 27th......
Evil
Last night I witnessed pure evil. It sat right across the table from me at Rosa's and I looked it (or maybe I should say "her") in the face. Yes, that's right KDP. You are evil! Who tells a 2 year old they will take him to the park on FRIDAY when it's only Sunday??? And then she laughed the most devilish laugh you've ever heard. She really enjoyed being evil - I'm sure of it.
Poor Crystal.
Poor, poor Crystal.
Poor Crystal.
Poor, poor Crystal.

Our First Sale Day
Oh man, I'm so tired I don't know if I can actually type a post. If I stop midway through, it's probably because I died. Seriously.
I hurt. All over. I'm soooo tired too! I just spent about 45 minutes rocking Aulora to sleep. That would be great except she never went to sleep. She was almost out several times but then she kept perking up and wanting to play. I gave up. She's jabbering in the living room with John now. Jabbering like she did from about 3:00-5:00 this morning in the middle of my bed. Oh, wait. She only jabbered the first 30 minutes. Then she just cried and tossed and turned and basically kept me from getting ANY sleep at all. Does anyone feel sorry for me yet??? Because I could go on if I needed to. =)
While we had fun today, we would have had much more fun if not for the rain. SO MUCH RAIN!!! I couldn't have been wetter if I had jumped in a pool. I guess the good part is that we were never hot. That was nice. We looked like wet dogs but we weren't hot.
We sold so much stuff and made a good chunk of money. A lot of our money was spent buying each other's things. Oh, well.
Some things to look forward to:
- a picture of Melissa kissing __??__ at the garage sale. it's not what you would think.
- a really super hot picture of Angela and me washing a car in the pouring rain. (a car that is for sale by the way. any takers?)
- a picture of the huge amount of stuff before most sold
- a grand total of everything we made - no, you may not have any.
- eventually, a picture of my super nice garage. I should have taken a before picture. you'll never fully appreciate the difference.
Aren't you excited now? I bet you'll check my blog every 30 minutes to see if these things are here, won't you? =)
By the way, someone did love us and brought us cherry limeades from Sonic. But that was Thursday night. We didn't get any today. Don't you people care about us, at all? Show us some love already. Thanks, Melissa, for your wonderful display of affection. It was yummy....
Looking forward to FUN tomorrow! (I keep telling myself this. )

Price is right.
La is making me write this blog. Cherry limeade. I am not La. I am Angela.
She told me to tell you gals how much fun we are having here at her house, pricing garage sale items... still. Cherry Limeade.
I gotta be honest with you, Cherry. I am not having as much fun as her.
We think it would be even more fun if one of you read this (cherry Limeade)and brought us food and drink and a sharpie, to help us price said items. (Limeade)
Nothing subliminal was detected in this message.

X's and Checks
John was reading through my blog last night for the first time in awhile since he's been so busy and out of town a lot. When he read the post about the kids' new charts, he said, "Wow. She gets x's on her chart!" Some lightbulb seemed to have gone off in his head and he quickly went out to the van and came back in. He showed me the score card from their golf game on Tuesday. (The kids both like to go with Daddy whenever he gets to play.) He said that the whole time they were playing she seemed to understand his score card. Whenever he missed the fairway he would mark an x in the box. Julia would get very upset, frown and say, "No, Daddy! We don't want an x! Do better!" And if his ball landed in the fairway, he would put a check in the box. "Yea, Daddy! That's good! You got a check!" He just couldn't figure out how she knew when he was doing good and bad.....

Garage Sale Friends Part 2
Oh man, we're running out of time and I still have soooo much to do! Hopefully tomorrow will be ultra productive. =)
Please remember to price all your things individually with your color sticker. If it's not done this way then the money will automatically go to me. (Hey, it's my garage sale and my rules.)
If at all possible, 6:00-6:45am on Friday morning is the ideal time to bring stuff over. BUT, I know that for some of you that just does not work. So you can bring stuff over on Thursday night or even later on Friday if you want. Please do NOT bring any really large things like furniture on Thursday because I won't have anywhere to put it. The main issue is space. So please use your best judgment.
I'm so excited about all the fun we're going to have, the money that will be in our pockets, and the fact that I may soon see my garage floor again! Woohoo!
To all our blogging friends, stop by and say hi to us! We promise there won't be any pressure to buy our junk. We don't want it - why would you? =)
I almost forgot to mention - the sale is advertised to begin at 7:00am on Friday and Saturday. I didn't set an ending time.....

For Davus......
I'll always treasure the many wonderful memories we've made together. I love you, love you, love you! Throughout my life, who you are to me has evolved to include many things, but you will always be my daddy.
I remember when.....
....you shaved your beard off. There was a hole in your face.
....you had a brown camaro with the shade slats in the rear window. Even then I knew you were cool.
....you were Risky Rat. Again, my dad was SO cool and famous!
....you took me to work with you at American Color. Then I was SO cool and famous!
....you built a big red barn in our backyard. I was too little to realize it was
leaning to the side. You were amazing!
....you let me have some baby quail eggs. They never hatched, but it was still cool.
....you put a cloth diaper over my eyes and drove me to Samuel's Farm for my
birthday. I was worried people driving around us would think you had kidnapped me.
....you scared me and Mei when we were in my Cabbage Patch tent on my bed. You pressed your man face into the mesh window and terrified us. Big mean Davus.
....you always wanted to hold Mom's hand in the car and smear big smooches all over it. Still gross but in a better way now. =)
....you worked really hard to make our backyard in Arizona so pretty. I can still see very clearly in my mind how beautiful that huge flower bed was.
....we caught lots of frogs in our KFC bucket at the park. (thanks for letting us have KFC even though you probably wanted Williams or something.) We came home and let them go in the yard and then they all wanted to swim in the pool with us. It was cool until morning when we found them all dead from the clorine. =(
....you scraped the whole side of the truck when you were pulling past the big gate in our driveway. Maybe that's when I knew you weren't perfect. =)
....my little kitty was "lost". Then a few months later I found her miles away in the parking lot of a nursery. Hmmmmm.....Wonder how she really got there. I forgive you.
....you stayed up most of the night to assemble my yellow and black scooter. I'm sure we would have plenty to laugh about if that assembly project was on video! hehehe I loved that scooter.
....you wrote me a special letter when I turned 7. (I think it was 7 - the birthday with the big round orange candle.) You always were so sentimental.
....we used to play Christmas duets together on the piano. I felt like quite the musician when we did that. It was always so pretty!
....you scared me AGAIN by slamming your big hand on the outside of my bedroom window when I was in bed. All I could see was your man hand and I almost wet my pants. Thanks.
....we conspired together to wrap up things Biggie already owned so she would have more presents for her birthday. What were you thinking??? =)
....you let us loose in Walmart to buy Biggie's Christmas presents. Again, what were you thinking?!? She got some good stuff that year, huh? Poor Biggie...
....you consulted me as a 12 year old to find out Mom's size. Hahaha. Small Petite. We'll never live that one down, will we? It seemed like such a great idea.
....you let me drive the Buick Regal for the first time in 6th grade. It was only in our neighborhood in Irving but it was still so great.
....you took me on my first "date" when I turned 13. Baby Does. Yummmmmmm...
....you took us all to see Phantom of the Opera for my birthday. I was so grown up then.
....you walked me across the gym when I was the freshman princess. I was proud to have such a handsome dad.
....you took me out for my 16th birthday. You gave me a little box and when I opened it there was a car key and a picture of a brand new SUV. You always were the jokester, weren't you? I still loved the Buick though.
....you got a new accessory and we saw it for the first time at Furr's or maybe Luby's. Can't remember that part. I do remember how vulnerable you were and how we tried soooo hard not to laugh. Sorry, Davus.
....we had your 40th birthday party. Lots of funny gag gifts, stand-up comedy, and lots of friends. Was that really 10 years ago?
....you couldn't stand Matt Robertson. He was a pinhead as you put it and you couldn't stand the thought of having pinheaded grandchildren. =) Thanks for putting up with him long enough for me to figure some stuff out. (It's ok - I know you really ran him off secretly.)
....you used to come on Bible Quiz trips to officiate. I know it must have been tortuous to have been around THAT many teenagers for an extended period of time.
....we used to come home on Sundays to eat your incredible pot roast. I drool even now just thinking about it. Come make me some!
....you and John went to Applebees to "talk" about things. Thanks for screening him out for me.
....we sat on the front curb and talked about why maybe I shouldn't get married at that point in time.
....you took me to Baby Does again the Tuesday before I got married. I still have the box of heart kisses you made me and the framed poem you wrote. Your kisses still smell like you and I still use them.
....you didn't cry at my wedding. Absolutely amazing. Your song, your speech, your handsomeness - it all helped make it the best night ever.
....I cried on my honeymoon because I missed you and Biggie so much. (Sorry, John Clay. That's what you got for robbing the cradle.)
....you and Biggie picked us up from the airport after our honeymoon. You were cool, but no daughter should be subjected to that embarrassment. Really.
....I had to move far away from you and Biggie. I was grown-up and married but it didn't matter. I wanted to be close to you. =( I cried when you pulled away to drive back to Dallas.
....you held John David for the first time. I knew you were going to the best grandpa ever.
....you arranged a renewal of vows for you and Mom. It was beautiful and special. I'm so glad you love her the way you do.
....you told us the two of you were moving to Colorado. Not a funny joke, Davus. I'm still waiting for you to come back.
....all I wanted was a mexican pizza at Taco Bell. Enough said.
I have SOOOO many memories and not enough time to type them all. I love you more and more every day. I'm so happy to be your baby girl. Happy 50th Birthday, Davus!

I Think I'm Gonna Cry.....
Two of my babies are gone. My life's just not right when they aren't here. How can I possibly go to sleep tonight without tucking them in? I haven't had their precious goodnight kisses and squeezes. Who will sneak in my bed tonight to be my cuddle bug? And in the morning, there won't be anyone to announce that it's once again a bright and sunny day. I'm just not whole and my eyes refuse to stay dry. This hurts. Does it ever get easier to be without your babies?

I Take It Back.....
A week or so ago I commented on someone else's blog how I liked laundry. I take it back. Normally, I do. But right now, I can NOT finish it!
I was so determined to have it all finished when John got home from camp. But no, it was not meant to be. =( My good intentions were spoiled by a chair cushion with chocolate milk on it, another chair cushion with orange juice on it (and this was after I had already washed the first one of course), nursery laundry from church, bed sheets, 2 sets of bathroom rugs that were both the victims of tee-tee accidents (Julia had a bad day), and baby clothes stained with explosive diaper messes.
So, needless to say, when John arrived home with his huge bags of nasty camp clothes and bedding and towels, they were not quite welcomed. Add to that the fact that I'm not convinced his dirty laundry does not have a few hitchhiking lice on them since all the girls from our church got lice at camp. I made him leave his dirty stuff in the garage until I can get to it. I'm proud to say that I am getting to it and the laundry might even be done in one more day. Yeah, I'll let you know how that goes.
Anyway, like I said in the title of this post - I TAKE IT BACK! The Lord probably thought He was blessing me with all of this, but I want to be very clear about my new position. I DO NOT LIKE IT. So please, Lord, make it stop. I just can't take any more of these laundry blessings.....

Stupid Little Hairs
You all get them. I know you do. I used to bleach them. Then I tried waxing. I'd rather go through child birth - seriously. So when I saw the little personal trimmers at Walmart for only $9.99 I decided to give it a whirl. My mom had successfully used one for years so I didn't think this was risky business.
I was wrong.
This little device managed to turn what used to just be annoying little mustache hairs into dark black man hairs. Just yesterday, in the car, John looked over and squinted at my face. He seemed to be zooming in on the mustache area so I was immediately concerned. "What is it?" I asked as I quickly pulled down the mirror. And there it was. That obnoxious little black hair flowing in the breeze of the air conditioner in all its glory. Of course, I didn't have any tweezers or scissors or hedge trimmers there in the car. So I had to invite that thing to dinner with us. Stupid little hair.
The worst part is that when I woke up this morning, his friends had arrived. That's ok. I was home now, with all my weapons of warfare. So I won. (The battle, not the war.)

My No-Church Day.....
Didn't get to go to church this morning. =( Aulora is STILL teething and running fevers. Poor baby. She has several teeth coming at the same time so it's extra painful, I guess. Anyway, I took the other kids to church to be with Daddy (they would have been heartbroken to have missed being there) and I stayed home and watched Teletubbies and Barney with Aulora. Those Teletubbies are super weird, but that's a different post. Thanks to E. for manning my job while I was out. You're the best! And I missed seeing everyone else. Thanks to you who updated your blogs - it helps ease the pain a little. =)
This evening, Aulora was finally feeling a little better so the kids and I walked up to the church where John was have fine arts practice with the teenagers. John David and Julia LOVE being at the church, especially when teenagers are there. They get to be the center of attention. The video is going to be incredible! They are doing it next Sunday morning in church, so don't miss it. It's powerful.
When there was a dinner break, we went up to that new place called Rodeo something by Grandy's and Burger King. It was pretty good. We'll probably go back. I would recommend at least trying it once. The water is purified (a big plus for me) and their menu is pretty big. They have $5 lunch specials every day too.
That's all I have. I'm going to bed. Yea!!! Finally.......

It must be true because Julia said so.....
Jacob showed his special love for Joseph by giving him a coat of many crayons.
The Best Italian Restaurant Ever
I just realized that I never posted about the fabulous restaurant we ate at called Cinzzetti's. Pappasito's is still my favorite place ever, but Cinzzetti's is quite the experience. This was no Golden Corral kind of buffet. It was a beautiful array of high-end Italian food made right in front of you. The desserts were awesome too! Bread pudding, Ghirardelli chocolate dipped strawberries, a crepe bar, all kinds of hand dipped ice cream, cream puffs, plus so much more. I just could never say enough about this amazing place. Sooooo, if you are ever in Denver or Overland Park, Kansas, you HAVE to stop and eat at Cinzzettis. =)
Angels Watching Over Us
When I was about 15 or so, my brother was wide awake in his bed, terrified as he looked out his window to see a big van parked outside our house. There were two shady looking men inside and he didn't know what they were doing. It was quite awhile before he was able to go to sleep.
During the same time, my mom awoke from a very vivid dream that my brother was being kidnapped. She got up and went to check on things. She found the front door unlocked and the security alarm not set. She took care of it all, checked on us, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, during breakfast, the two sides of the story were put together and we realized in a very real way how we are protected in life. So last night, when I got a phone call from a friend of ours in the middle of the night, I wasn't mad. He said he felt the Lord had really wanted him to drive by our house and when he did, he noticed that the dvd player was on in our van. That wasn't a big deal, but I got up immediately to check on things. The van was not locked and neither was one of the house doors. Maybe it was nothing, but you just never know when angels are protecting you from something. Whenever my kids are scared at bedtime, I remind them that Jesus and His angels are protecting us. Last night, I was reminded of that myself.....

Pool Day Pictures
I'm The Winner!
We just got back from the pool and, yea, nobody else has put up a post about our afternoon so I get to say whatever I want. Woohoo! =) (The other moms are probably being responsible and bathing their children or some such nonsense. I guess we know who the committed blogger is.)
Some of us met at the municipal pool at 2:00 today. It was so great to hang out with some friends and get a little sun too. I think we solved everyone's problems and even came up with a theory or two for world peace.
I noticed as I was getting out of my wet swimsuit that I have what appears to be a child sized handprint on my back. The best I can figure is that one of the kids put their hand on my back during the sunblock process. Cool, huh? I guess I can better tell how much sun my back got. =)
I took pictures, but they'll have to wait until later when I get the kids in bed. Regrettably, I did not get a video of Angela doing a handstand or upside down splits in the water. I tried but I think she was on to me and my sneaky self with a camera. Plus, some lifeguard said he saw lightning (I think he just wanted to go home early) so we had to get out of the pool early. Otherwise, we would probably still be there.
Afterwards, I almost had to call someone to rescue me with a gas can. When we got to the pool, my van said I still had 22 miles until empty. But when we left, it said I had 0 miles left. I prayed all the way to the gas station. And I want you to know that I caught every stinking red light possible. Quite the adrenaline rush.....
Pictures will be up later tonight.......

Forget Joining the Gym
Oh my goodness. Aulora has learned to crawl fast and my life is rapidly changing. There's the million tiny toys that John David and Julia accidentally leave laying around. There's the occasional rollie pollie bug or spider that Aulora inevitably finds first (and of course you know where she puts it).
She is drawn to bathrooms for some reason. This morning she got in my bathroom and was very intent on standing at the side of the tub and grabbing the shampoo bottles. One fell in and then she only wanted that one. Trying to get her out of there was almost impossible because she had a little death grip on the side of the tub and the shower curtain. She ended up falling in head first. Don't worry, she wasn't hurt. I was standing right there watching her. I warned her she was going to get hurt and not to come crying to me when she did. =) She didn't want to listen.
She is also very fond of shoes. If you know me then you know how this affects me (or maybe I should say how it affects my heart). She finds them no matter where they may be hidden. She has some kind of superhero shoe finding radar.
And then there's my fireplace. I never had a problem with my other two and the fireplace but I think this time is going to be different. So don't laugh if you come to my house and I have some weird contraption rigged around the edge of my brick fireplace.
On a more positive note, this is probably the weight loss and exercise program I've been needing. Would anyone like to borrow her for 30 minutes 3 times a week? I promise my rates will be cheaper than any of the health clubs in town. =)
